Double Eyelid (Suture)

A non-incisional double eyelid surgery, also known as a Suture Upper Blepharoplasty, is suitable for individuals with less fatty tissue and minimal signs of skin laxity on the upper eyelids.

The procedure begins by burying the suture using a small incision of 1 to 2mm to connect the eyelid skin with levator muscle – which is responsible for upper eyelid elevation.

PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on the patient’s upper eyelids before the procedure.

  • During Surgery:

Sutures are weaved into an interlocking patent to create lasting double eyelids.

  • After Surgery:

Upon completion of the procedure, our medical team and staff will guide you on a step-by-step post-surgical care precaution to follow.

BENEFITS
  • Requires short recovery period.
  • Able to achieve low to medium double eyelid creases for a more natural look.
  • Suture method causes less trauma to the skin. Hence, there will be less bruising as compared
    to the cutting method.
  • Can be combined with medial canthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty or droopy eyelid correction to create bigger looking eyes.

All aesthetic eyelid/eye bag surgeries are performed with an Oculoplastic Specialist.

Double Eyelid (Incisional)

The incisional double eyelid surgery method utilises and incisions along the double eyelid lines to remove droopy or excessive skin, fats and muscle. Hollowed skin and fat and heavy and thick muscles, can also be reduced to create slimmer double eyelids.

While the muscles will not be removed excessively, scars from the incision will not leave a hollow line as the suture that is being used is barely noticeable. As such, swelling resulting from an incisional blepharoplasty will require more time to subside than the non-incisional method.

PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on the patient’s upper eyelids before the procedure.

  • During Surgery:

Double eyelid line is created via creating an incision on excessive skin, orbicular muscle of eyes, and fats according to the eyelid line and muscle.

  • After Surgery:

Upon completion of the procedure, all sutures can be removed between five to seven days. The team will guide you on a step-by-step post-surgical care precaution to follow.

BENEFITS
  • Results are permanent
  • Procedure removes excess skin and fat
  • Technique addresses limitations of the non-incisional method
  • Able to achieve low, medium or high double eyelid creases for a more natural look.
  • Can be combined with medial canthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty or droopy eyelid correction to create bigger looking eyes.

All aesthetic eyelid/eye bag surgeries are performed with a specialist in Oculoplastic Surgery.

Epicanthoplasty

Epicanthal fold or the Mongolian fold is a fold at the eyelids; an inner edge that causes the eyes to look around, distant and narrow. Epicanthoplasty is a procedure used to extend the eye’s width, making them look bigger and bolder.

Scars from the procedure are barely noticeable after two to three months post-surgery. They are usually positioned near the eyelashes or inside of the double eyelids.

ADVANTAGES

Zoe Medical utilises various bespoke surgical methods per individual’s circumstances; Skin-redraping, Uchida and Hiraga surgery. This method ensures surgical complications will not arise from un customisable methods and avoid a long recovery time. Thus, it is essential to note that skin-redraping surgery is rarely utilised due to its long recovery time.

EPICANTHOPLASTY SURGICAL METHODS
  • Uchida Method

A minimal incision is done to improve the Epicanthal fold, and hence, reducing the likelihood of scarring.

  • Hiraga Method

The incision line is well hidden and the eye muscles and fibrous film that are responsible for causing the folds are separated.

  • Skin-redraping Method

This method hides the incision line well by separating and suturing the fibrous film and eye muscles that are responsible for causing the Mongolian fold.

  • Restoration of the Mongolian fold

Recreating Epicanthal fold when excessive Epicanthoplasty was done

PREPARING FOR YOUR CONSULTATION AT ZOE MEDICAL

Patients must undergo a proper consultation with the surgeon before the surgery. This ensures both parties are clear on the understanding and concerns of the surgery before embarking on it. During the consultation, surgeons will properly understand patients’ concerns and expectations, do a personal assessment of patients’ lower eyelid condition, recommend appropriate procedures and discuss potential outcomes from the surgery, address additional concerns patients may have before the treatment plan, and explain the pre-and post-surgery requirements one has to be aware of.

All aesthetic eye surgeries are performed by a surgeon specialised in Oculoplastic Surgery.

Lateral Canthoplasty

Lateral Canthoplasty involves the cutting of the outer corner of the eyes, to lengthen the eyes. This is often performed with double eyelid procedure to enhance the results.

ADVANTAGES

It is a non-scarring procedure as the mucous membrane of the lateral angle of the eyes is incised. If needed, the eye slant will be fixed firmly to the periost to ensure its position will be adjusted without a recurrence.

SURGERY METHOD

The length of the eyes is extended by making an incision on a lateral angle of the eyes. The incision length is usually about 2-3 mm.

After arranging the skin of the incised lateral angle of the eyes, the orbicular muscles of the eyes, and the lateral angle muscle, the lateral angle muscle itself is fixed to the periost if necessary. The arranged lateral angle of the eyes is then carefully sutured.

All sutures are removed between five to seven days after the procedure.

  • Before Surgery

Markings will be made on the lateral angle of the eyes before the procedure.

  • During Surgery

Skin and mucous membrane of the lateral angle of the eyes are incised.

  • After Surgery

Patients can expect to see natural and wider-looking eyes.

Ptosis – Droopy Eyelid (Suture)

Ptosis – droopy or falling of the upper eyelid due to muscle laxity caused by ageing or bad habits, such as excessive rubbing or tugging genetic and congenital factors.

The surgery allows creating bigger looking eyes by tightening the upper eyelid muscles while allowing the eyelids to be further raised when your eyes are open. In the process of fixing droopy eyelids, one realises that double eyelids are also created concurrently.

Utilising an incision along the double eyelid lines, drooped or excessive skin, fats and muscles are then removed. A thread is attached to the levator – the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelids – and is then being tightened and strengthened. The eyelids will regain a part of their ability to lift, and the patient’s eyes will appear naturally bigger.

This procedure is suitable for you if you have any of the following concerns:

  • People with sleepy-looking eyes.
  • People with genetically small eyes.
  • People with difficulty lifting their upper eyelids.
SURGERY PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on the patient’s upper eyelids before the procedure, and a thread will be fixed to the levator.

  • During Surgery:

Drooped or excessive skin, fats and muscles are removed, and sutures are used to tighten the levator muscle.

  • After Surgery:

Upon completion of the procedure, all sutures can be removed between five to seven days. Eyelids will then regain a part of their ability to lift, and the patient’s eyes will appear naturally bigger. The team will guide you on a step-by-step post-surgical care precaution to follow.

ADVANTAGES

Eye Bag Removal (Scar-less)

If you have mild bulging on your lower eyelids, the scarless eye bag removal is the surgery for you. Using laser energy to melt fat tissue around the under-eye area, your eye bags can be removed with no visible scars on the surface of the skin. Read on to find out more about this procedure.

PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on the eyebags before the procedure.

  • During Surgery:

A needle-sized probe uses laser energy to melt fat tissue around the under-eye area.

  • After Surgery:

Excess fats and water are removed from under the eye, diminishing the bulging eye bag. Fat graft or filler injection will then smoothen out or add volume to the lower eyelids.

ADVANTAGES
  • Scar-less
  • Treats mild bulging on the lower eyelids
  • Technique addresses limitations of the non-incisional method
  • Minimal bruising and swelling, as well as less trauma to the skin
  • Faster recovery as compared to surgical eye bag removal techniques
  • Fine laser probe allows for greater precision on small and delicate areas, such as the lower eyelids

Eye Bag Removal (Incisional)

As you age, your skin, fats and muscles will start to sag and accumulated at the confined area around your eyes. As the normal fat around the eyes can help support the eyes and move into the lower eyelids, causing it to appear puff, fluid will accumulate in the space and add to the swelling.

Thus, the surgery will effectively remove mild to moderate eyebags without leaving any prominent scars on the face. As there is more severe protrusion under the lower lash line. The surgery will require an incision to remove the excess skin. After removing excessive fats and skin, the incision will then be stitched up, leaving no visible scars.

PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on the eyebags before the procedure.

  • During Surgery:

Fat and excess skin are removed to tighten the under-eye area.

  • After Surgery:

Bulging under the eye will be removed and sutured, and sutures will be removed between five to seven days post-surgery.

ADVANTAGES
  • Treats mild to moderate bulge on the lower eyelids
  • Removed excess skin for a smoother under-eye contour
  • Can be combined with facial fat-grafting for optimal results.

Eye Bag Repositioning

As you age, fats supporting the lower eyelids can shift, causing them to appear puffy. As such, fluid will commence accumulating in the space below your eyes which may add to additional swelling.

Thus, the surgery will remove or rearrange the protruding portion of the lower eyelids, reposition the fats to fill up the sunken area under the eyes, correct dark circles, and any drooping skin.

PROCESS
  • Before Surgery:

Markings will be made on your lower eyelids before the procedure.

  • During Surgery:

Fats and excess skin are removed, diminishing the bulging under the eye area. This ensures fats are repositioned and secured for a smooth under-eye contour.

  • After Surgery:

Bulging under the eye is removed and smoothened out.

ADVANTAGES
  • Reduce wrinkles and fine lines to improve the appearance of dark circles
  • Under-eye area feels firm and tight
  • Long-lasting results
  • Prevents unwanted hollowness around the lower eyelids
  • Can be combined with facial fat grafting

Brow Lift

Upon ageing, one will notice the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, bridge of the nose and crow’s feet, and heavy eyelids. This is due to the skin and muscles located at the upper facial parts (forehead and upper eyelids) being overly stretched, resulting in sagging.

Additionally, the cause of wrinkles is also due to forehead muscles overcompensating. It is used to lift droopy eyebrows resulting in an overly stretched forehead skin clumping together. Also, eyebrows tend to be droopy when one is asleep, causing the skin below the eyebrows, such as the bridge of the nose, crows feet, and the eyelid; inside or mid-section clump together – deepening the wrinkles around the affected areas.

NON-INVASIVE PROCEDURE
  • Botox – a helpful anti-ageing procedure associated with fixed ones upper facial parts – weakens the muscles groups around the foreheads eyes and mid-section. Ulthera (HIFU) and Thermage (RF) are usually recommended for patients with thin forehead skin, loss of elasticity, and droopy eyebrows.

At Zoe Medical, we recommend undergoing a specialised treatment programme to produce elasticity to the dermis, subcutaneous tissue and skin.

ENDOSCOPIC EYEBROW LIFTING WITH MINIMAL INCISION

The procedure, mainly applied to the forehead, eyebrows or temporal region with an endoscope and five minimal incisions at the back of the hairline, is usually recommended for patients with thinning or short hair due to it not leaving any incision scars.

Upon the loosening of ligament, an adhesive section holding up the loose skin on the forehead will then be held with an endoscope. After that, our in-house oculoplastic surgeon will rearrange and adjust the patient’s upper facial area muscles. The procedure has been known to ensure stability to the treated area(s) for a long time.
