Using Dual Yellow Laser To Treat Pigmentation, Melasma, and Rosacea in Singapore
What is melasma?
A type of pigmentation that causes skin discolouration, Melasma, can affect anyone. However, it is more commonly found in women, especially pregnant women and women who consume contraceptive pills or hormone replacement therapy drugs.
They usually appear as dark and are irregular hyperpigmented patches that are commonly found in areas that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as forehead, cheeks, nose and lips. It is thought to be overactive melanocytes stimulated by female sex hormones to produce additional melanin pigments when the skin is exposed to the sun.
What is Dual Yellow Laser?
An FDA-approved procedure of the vascular and pigmented lesion, Dual Yellow Laser, relies on copper bromide-based laser technology. The laser technology offers a multi-wavelength capability to treat a wide range of skin issues, such as vascular lesions, skin pigmentation – Melasma, and skin lesions like seborrheic keratosis and acne.
The procedure is effective for overall skin rejuvenation treatment which brightens skin, treats fine wrinkles and improves skin texture. Specially designed to penetrate deep into the skin without harming the surrounding tissue, Dual Yellow Laser sets the gold standard to treating all kinds of skin abnormalities.
Why is Dual Yellow Laser particularly good for treating melasma?
The Dual Yellow Laser emits unique wavelengths of 511nm and 578nm – corresponding well with absorption peaks for vascular and pigmented conditions. These wavelengths are capable of reaching within the deep dermis and absorbed by the pigments without causing any collateral damage to the surrounding skin.
The laser also emits green and yellow lights which are effective for treating and clearing Melasma by curbing the production of melanin within the source, which leads to the laser not only treating Melasma but reducing the production of melanin to accelerate a low recurrence.
Dual Yellow Laser for skin redness and rosacea
Due to ageing, the appearance of fine blood vessels on the skin surface will start to occur, making the skin prone to flushes. Apart from genetics and race being a significant factor in why some of us experience red and sensitive skin as opposed to others, Rosacea is a common skin condition. Rosacea – a chronic and relapsing skin condition is characterised by facial flushing and pimple-like lesions and can be disruptive to one’s daily lives.
The yellow light-emitting at 578nm from the laser is designed to target the oxyhemoglobin presented in our blood. As a result, it shrinks the capillaries to reduce the appearance of red patches on the face effectively. Skin conditions associated with excessive vasculature, such as Rosacea, sensitive skin, telangiectasia, cherry angiomas, poikiloderma of civatte – are all effectively treated with the Dual Yellow Laser.
