Hair loss treatments at Zoe Medical
When it comes to looking after ourselves, having a healthy head of hair is at the top of our list. Unfortunately, hair loss is a problem that many of us face in Singapore, whether it’s due to hereditary reasons, hormonal changes, or poor lifestyle habits.
At Zoe Medical, we offer both 4D Hair Restoration, an upgraded version of a hair transplant, and Regenera Activa which helps stimulate hair growth and thicken hair follicles without having to make a single incision or cut.
Yet, there are still numerous differences between the two treatments, based on how dire your hair loss is—read on to find out which treatment is most suitable for your hair and scalp concerns!
Common causes of hair loss
Hair loss, medically termed as alopecia androgenetica, affects more of us than you’d think. Hair loss doesn’t only affect older men but thinning hair, a receding hairline, and excessive hair fall can happen to anyone—both men and women. Whether it’s thinning hair following childbirth or hereditary conditions such as male pattern baldness, it’s a condition that can greatly affect our confidence and mental wellbeing.
It’s normal to find a few loose strands of hair in your hairbrush but definitely a cause for concern when you’re clogging up the shower drain with huge clumps of hair. Think of it this way: 50 strands or so is considered a normal amount of hair to lose daily, but anything more than 100 strands of hair falls under excessive hair loss.
Besides hereditary-pattern baldness, which occurs naturally with age, some of the more common causes of hair loss include:
- Hormonal changes – this can occur in women after childbirth or while during menopause, and also to all facing the natural process of ageing, as our hormonal composition changes over time.
- Stress – both physical and psychological stress can result in hair loss.
- Poor diet and lifestyle – low intake of certain nutrients, such as zinc and iron. Other key nutrients for a healthy head of hair include vitamins D, B-12, C, A along with copper, selenium and biotin.
- Medical conditions – multiple medical conditions affect the growth of hair, such as thyroid disorders, liver disease and diabetes. Medications for such conditions may also lead to hair loss.
Inevitably, there are many causes of hair loss and most of them don’t have an easy fix. In mild to moderate cases, we can turn towards hair procedures like 4D Hair Restoration and Regenera Activa to get back healthy and thick hair.
4D Hair Restoration

For those unhappy with their current hair condition—whether it’s hair loss or an unhealthy scalp—Zoe Medical’s 4D Hair Restoration procedure is a permanent solution. What’s even more impressive is that this procedure helps restore your hair without having to resort to traditional surgical measures, meaning that there wouldn’t be a single cut or incision made.
In line with Zoe Medical’s 4D approach to beauty, this procedure is ideal for those facing:

- Excessive hair loss
- Insufficient hair growth
- Weak hair follicles
- Unhealthy scalp
But how does it compare to a traditional hair transplant? Typically, a hair transplant involves cutting a strip of the scalp to “implant” hair follicles in the desired area. There will be a linear wound which you’ll need to care for, that’ll also leave a permanent scar.
With Sapphire and ERASE (Electronic Rotation Assisted Single Extraction) technology, you can look forward to maximal hair follicular survival (up to 97% survival and success), faster recovery, and no linear scarring. You can also expect to see visible results within 4 to 6 months, with results becoming most apparent after 9 months to 1 year.

Regenera Activa

Another option in treating hair loss is Regenera Activa, a procedure that takes roughly 30 minutes. In extracting regenerative cells (micrografts) from your scalp, Zoe Medical can help stimulate hair growth in other areas that lack hair. One major plus of this procedure is that it’s using regenerative growth factors from your own body so there’s zero chance of rejection.

There are three steps to this:
- The Harvest – Small skin samples with a diameter of 3mm are extracted with a punch biopsy tool.
- The Extraction – The skin samples are then placed inside a kit and into the Regenera Machine for disintegration and filtering of solid tissues. Growth factors and other precursor elements are then extracted in high concentration.
- The Injection – The extracted solution is then injected into the target treatment area on the scalp with a very fine needle.
You can expect to see results after four to six weeks of treatment, with the regeneration of new hair.
4D Hair Restoration Vs Regenera Activa
Both 4D Hair Restoration and Regenera Activa are viable procedures for those who are facing hair loss—there’s no reason to fork out a large sum of money for a surgical hair transplant, especially when it comes with greater risk and a longer recovery time.
So what are the key differences between the two? While both are effective in treating hair loss, each procedure is suitable for different levels of hair loss.
Regenera Activa helps existing hair follicles to thrive, and stimulates growth for healthier and stronger hair. However, this is based on harvesting hair follicles that are still active, so it doesn’t work if you have large areas of hair follicles that are no longer active. Therefore, it works best for those facing mild to moderate hair loss, with regenerative cells and growth factors helping to stimulate hair growth.
In comparison, 4D Hair Restoration helps with areas where there are no active hair growth or active follicles. We help transplant healthy hair follicles to areas where volume is needed. This is ideal for those who have more severe hair loss and a number of bald patches.
What is most impressive about 4D Hair Restoration is that it’s almost like an upgraded version of a surgical hair transplant. While you can expect similar results, this procedure uses a combination of Wetling MicroCurrent Stimulation therapy and the Sapphire FUE system to harvest and reposition hair follicles so that there is no need for surgery at all. Such technology helps maximise graft survival and also aids with recovery.
Depending on your individual case, you can also use both treatments together with patients undergoing Regenera Activa either before or after 4D Hair Restoration for effective results. There is also a minimal amount of pain and a short recovery period for both, as we take great care to ensure that all patients feel comfortable during treatment.
