Hair transplantation is a treatment solution for individuals suffering from hair loss. The transplanted hair follicles have a higher survival rate and behave as if they were at their original state.


Several factors can cause hair loss, affecting both men and women – although more prevalent amongst men. Below are some of the factors that contribute to hair loss:

Some cases may be more severe than others; however, when treated with the right mix of oral medication, topical hair regenerative lotions, follicular regeneration treatment, hair density and hairlines can be restored.

The hair spray plays a vital role in the hair transplant recovery process. It targets to prolong the active growth phase of hair follicles – making it an only phrase in the hair growth cycle where new follicle regeneration and growth happens. The spray then complements the hair transplant treatment by prolonging the hair growth duration, providing nutrients to ensure hair regeneration on the scalp and maintain a healthy re-growth cycle.


The Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a method where a surgeon harvests a strip of tissue with healthy hair or individual follicles using a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) from the back or side of an individuals scalp. Our experienced hair technicians at Zoe Medical will separate the tissues using stereomicroscopic magnification into small clusters of follicular units for transplantation.

  • Fine & Unnoticeable Scars:

    The usage of a clean excision technique and Trichophytic closure technique – an advanced surgery closure method that hides both edges of the skin to create a bond – allows the scalp to heal tightly with the thinnest scar possible.

  • Require Smaller Donor Site: 

    The strip harvesting method requires a small strip of scalp from the donor site, ensuring good hair density and making it suitable for patients with severe balding conditions.

  • Lower Risk of Thinning Hair around Donor Site: 

    The surgeon will only harvest grafts from areas where the hair is most prevalent and dense – usually at the back or sides – as these areas have a lower risk of hair thinning.

  • Higher Survival Rates: 

    Manually extracted healthy hair grafts with supporting tissues will be transplanted to the individual as soon as possible to ensure it leaves the body for a minimal period only. The longer the hair graft is separated from the body, the more detrimental it is to its quality and survival rate.

  • Require Less Number Of Hair Transplant Sessions:

    The strip harvesting method allows the hair specialist to maximise the harvested graft size from the donor site where the hair is most permanent to ensure the greatest number of grafts will be transplanted in one session. As such, more grafts can be transplanted in one session of FUT as opposed to a robotic hair transplant method

  • Healthier Hair Grafts: 

    Stereomicroscopic magnification allows the hair specialist to separate the follicular units with ample precision – ensuring the supporting tissues (nerves, sebum glands, fats, muscle tissues, etc.) the hair grafts survival be fully intact. However, manually harvested follicular units have a much lower risk of being traumatised or suffering from graft transection (damage of supporting tissues for hair graft survival), which may occur when using robotic follicular extraction.

  • Minimal Scarring & Reduced Risk Of Thinning Hair At Donor Site:

    As scars interfere with new hair growth, the strip harvesting method prevents multiple scarred areas from building up following each subsequent session. If one’s skin is prone to scarring, the chosen donor sites are limited to a specific location or a spot where the scar is least visible. When repeated sessions are required, the strip harvesting method excises the donor area to ensure one scar should be concealed. Robotic hair transplant scars accumulate with each additional treatment and may look more obvious after subsequent treatments.


  • Stitch Removal

    Stitches are typically removed up to 10 days after the procedure, and one can resume daily activities after 3 days of treatment. However, the FUE method will not require any stitches. Hence, there is no need for a stitch removal procedure.

  • Swelling

    One is to expect swelling that will last up to four days post-treatment. Swelling from subsequent treatments usually occur in a milder form or not at all.

  • New follicle Growth

    A new generation of hair will be visible at the scalp’s surface between 8 to 12 weeks post-transplantation. After that, the hair will continue to grow at the same rate it did in its original location.

  • Shedding

    One is to expect light shedding a few weeks post-procedure, and new strands will grow in place of the fallen strands.

  • Shampoo & Haircare

    One is advised to commence the usage of gentle shampoo from the second day of transplantation, and patients will need to apply a medicated hair spray as part of the aftercare regime.

  • Scab

    Crusts of scabs will form over each graft post-procedure and will remain attached for up to two weeks before they fall off on their own.

Regenera Activa®, a no-downtime and advanced hair growth treatment, uses regenerative cells extracted from one’s scalp to stimulate the other areas that are losing hair. The hair loss treatment relies on ones body’s ability to produce new functioning hair follicles by activating the inactive areas on the scalp.

The patient – a donor and recipient of the autologous micrografts – allows the recipient zone to benefit from the progenitor cell’s regenerative activity and growth factors extracted from the donor site.

Causes of Hair Loss

Many have a misconception that with age, comes hair loss; however, that is a myth. Androgenetic alopecia, a medical term for hair loss, can come in many forms. Mainly due to the sensitivity of hair follicles to androgen and occurs mostly to 70% of men and 40% of women during a certain period of their lives.

There will usually be a recession of the hairline at the temples and the occurrence of baldness at the top in men. However, in women, hair loss usually manifests in scattered thinning at the top of the head.

How Does Regenera Activa® Work?

Using the latest capillary regenerative technology, the treatments patented system extracts micro-grafts from your scalp. Upon injecting into the areas of hair loss, these micro-grafts repair and regenerates your scalp resulting in thicker, fuller and healthier hair.

What happens during the treatment?

The three-step procedure takes up to 60 minutes to complete. As such, read on to find about one will go through during the procedure.

Firstly, local anaesthesia will be applied around the nape of the neck. With the use of a punch biopsy tool, three skin samples, with a diameter of 2.5mm each will be taken.

Secondly, the skin samples are then collected and subjected to mechanical processing, and filtered in a specialised device to isolate progenitor cells, stem cells and growth factors – to assist with the regenerative process.

Lastly, the suspension will be prepared and reintroduced to the scalp area, which requires treatment
using fine tiny needles. The process initiates the reparation process, stimulates blood vessel formation and regeneration of hair follicles.

Several sources of novel and cellular therapy for the regeneration of hair follicles include autologous cells originating from adipose and bone marrow. Additionally, the sources of treatments include placental cell-derived exosome products – originating from mesenchymal stem cells.

Purified using a proprietary filtration process, ASCE is not cells but microvesicles that contain no nucleus or DNA. It is viewed as one of the purest forms of cellular therapy available to provide tissue stimulation and wound healing by triggering the patient’s regenerative cells to become active.

What can I expect from the Treatment?

Although the safety and tolerability of the ASCE is widely known, the very new Korean FDA-approved product has great hope. However, no guarantee of success can be made as these tropical therapies vary from one patient to another. Without sufficient scientific studies or case reports made available, efficacy studies are still outstanding.

As exosomes are the latest generation of naturally bioactive amnion-based products of patients hair thinning and loss, it acts as paracrine effectors, by having a role in signalling or stimulating nearby cells. Being regenerative cells by nature, exosomes work to heal, repair, stimulate, and restore cells and tissues. As such, the patient’s hair follicle is susceptible to miniaturisation by genetic and hormonal effects from DHT.

How are the MSC Extracellular Vesicles used to stimulate the scalp?

A tiny amount of EV allows for easy absorption into the scalps superficial dermis when mixed with the patient’s shampoo. Common autologous scaffolds can be used, such as Regenera Activa or Dr CYJ Hair Filler, due to their cell retention and cell migration assistance.
